Kimigayo - National Anthem of Japan - March 13, 2011
It was about 10 years ago, I first heard a recording of Japan's National Anthem and it struck me how cinematic and melodic it was. Most national anthems are so strong and rigid, but this had such beautiful chords. I started working on my own version but it never materialized, until now. The terrible events of this past week inspired me to finally finish this project from many years ago.
While in India, we traveled between Delhi and Agra and shot several photos and video, many from the train and the backseat of a taxi. I enjoyed all the people zooming along on motorbikes and bicycles. This inspired me to write and record a piece of music to serve as the soundtrack for these images. I began improvising a string melody I could work with to compliment a simple sitar part, gamelan and Indian drumming. The fusion of Indian and Indonesian instruments often works so well together.

Playing With Knives - May 22, 2010
I wrote and recorded this while having my Saturday morning coffee. I was still in my jammies by the time it was complete. Stir in equal parts Ministry, Repo Man, and Tito Puente. Bake at a million degrees.
My friend Piotr Bal has released a new compilation album on his label, PBM Records, in an effort to help raise money for Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign. 100% of the money generated from each sale will be donated directly to the Obama campaign. How cool is that? Check out each of the tracks, put some new music in your iPod, and help Barack Obama become the next President of the United States.
